It is our policy at WOC to remain transparent to the public. Please feel free to email us with questions. If the question becomes a FAQ, we will post the answer on our site.

What makes World Orphan Connection unique?

We believe that there are several aspects that make WOC different. First, we are not trying to reinvent the wheel so to speak. We want to figure out what is working and enhance it. We have no intention on "Americanizing" anyone or any organization. We want to locate organizations and within their culture and their region, give them our support both by giving them financial resources and linking them to other groups around the world via our website.

In addition, our website will be unique. It will serve as a hub, linking non-governmental organizations (NGOs) together so that they can share their successes and utilize common resources.

Is WOC recognized by the IRS as a nonprofit?

Yes. WOC has 501c3 status. Because of this, our donors in the US are eligible for a tax deduction.

Can donors pick which organization their money goes to?

Unfortunately, no. The IRS specifically states that a nonprofit cannot solicit funds or allow funds to be earmarked for one particular organization overseas. However, if our donors have a specific request as to what "type" of organization they wish to assist, or a specific country or region they wish to serve, we will ensure that we will make the donation to an organization that fits their request.

It is also important to Betsy and the Board that their leadership team remains diverse so that they will be better prepared to assist in all cultures around the world.

Is WOC affiliated with any religious group?

No. While Betsy, the founder is a believer, and many around her share her faith, she specifically avoided setting this organization up in a way that may isolate people or limit ways to acquire support. All children, of all faiths, in all regions are important and worthy of support. Any NGO, regardless of their belief will be eligible to receive assistance from WOC, as long as they meet the requirements that will be listed in the application.
